Our Story
When the diagnosis comes, it's terrifying. You're handed a pamphlet about Cholestasis of Pregnancy (ICP), told about the risks, and given a prescription. But when you get home and open the fridge, the reality sets in: what are we supposed to eat?
That was our experience. Suddenly, every meal was a math equation. We were told to eat a low-fat diet to help the liver process bile acids, but almost all the advice out there was either vague ("just eat healthy") or miserable ("eat boiled chicken and plain rice").
We love food. We love cooking. The idea of spending the most stressful weeks of pregnancy eating sad, flavorless meals felt like a punishment. So, we started researching. There was hardly anything out there. No guides to get us started, no brochure on how to do nearly four months low fat. It was hard to find so much as a Reddit post with helpful information. We felt like we were the only people in the world dealing with ICP.
It took a while, and quite a bit of experimenting, but we started to figure it out. There were a lot of ups and downs along the way, but eventually we got to a place where we didn't dread our meals. After a while we even started looking forward to them.
We're not going to tell you that you can make every meal taste better without fat. But you can learn to make meals that taste good. Many that taste great. Meals you can look forward to.
We built this site because no one should have to choose between their health and enjoying a meal. These recipes are the ones we actually ate. They're tested, they're low-fat, and most importantly, they actually taste good. Regardless of why you are choosing to eat low fat, we hope this website makes your journey a little easier.
A Quick Note
We are not doctors. We're just parents who have been through this. The recipes here are designed to be low in fat, but every body is different. Please talk to your medical team about what dietary changes are right for your specific diagnosis. Read our full disclaimer.
